When was Fortiche founded, and where is it based?
Fortiche was founded in Paris in 2009 by Jérôme Combe, Pascal Charrue, and Arnaud Delord.
Today Fortiche has additional studios in Montpellier and Las Palmas (Spain).
What does the name “Fortiche” mean?
Fortiche: A FRENCH ANIMATION AND PRODUCTION COMPANY THAT MAKES COOL AND MEMORABLE CONTENT.
The choice of the word “Fortiche” reflects the founders’ commitment to excellence in the animation industry. Since its creation, the company has established itself on the global animation scene as a leader in a new genre of films that resonate with audiences around the world.
What types of projects does Fortiche specialize in?
Fortiche’s ambition is to tell new popular and mature stories, with a fresh tone, at the intersection of animation, live-action cinema, and pop culture in all its forms (series, feature films, music videos, commercials).
One of Fortiche’s notable achievements is the critically acclaimed series Arcane based on the Riot Games’ League of Legends.
Who are the founders or key creative leads at Fortiche?
The three Fortiche founders come from different but complementary creative backgrounds – the essence for success:
- Jérôme Combe: A self-taught creative director with a background in character design and a knack for winning Victoires de la Musique awards.
- Pascal Charrue: A Gobelins graduate specialized in series animation. He’s the one making sure our characters move as beautifully as they look.
- Arnaud Delord: A director coming from the high-energy world of live-action advertising and music videos.
While the founders steer the ship, we’ve got some legendary leads keeping the engine purring:
- Barthélémy (Bart) Maunoury: Co-Director of Arcane and a key Creative Director. He’s been a core part of the “Fortiche Touch” since 2012.
- Hervé Dupont: Our Deputy CEO & Executive Producer. He’s the business and production wizard who helped scale us from a boutique studio to the powerhouse behind Arcane.
How big is the studio, and how fast is it growing?
Fortiche has grown from a small “boutique” team into a global powerhouse, though its size often shifts based on the stage of its major productions. Fortiche brings together up to 450 professionals across its three locations during peak production phases.
Each location has its own specialty:
- Paris (HQ): The main creative crossroads, hosting all departments under one roof.
- Montpellier: A key pillar for character animation and CFX (cloth/hair simulation).
- Las Palmas (Spain): A collaborative hub primarily for animators and compositing department.

The “Fortiche Touch” is a visual signature that intentionally blurs the line between traditional painting and modern technology. It is built on a philosophy of “human imperfection,” where digital precision is swapped for organic, hand-crafted textures. Drawing from great names in comics and comic books, but also from references in art history. In terms of staging and direction, our main references come from live-action films, whether they are cult classics or lesser-known, driven by singular perspectives.
Which software or 3D programs does Fortiche use for its productions?
The talents use software called DCC (Digital Content Creation):

- Sidefx Houdini
- The Foundry Nuke
- The Foundry Mari
- Mercenaries Guerilla
Fortiche also have our own in-house developped tools that enhance these DCCs.
How does Fortiche approach the use of generative AI in production?
Fortiche prioritizes an “artistic first” philosophy, viewing generative AI not as a replacement for human talent but as a tool to relieve talents from repetitive tasks and allow them to focus on the artistic and creative craft.

Does Fortiche only work with Riot Games / League of Legends, or with other partners too?
Short answer: No!
Long answer: While Fortiche love the Runeterra universe, the company is a multi-project production house. The goal is to bring the “Fortiche Touch” to diverse worlds.
- Marvel Studios: We produced and directed the Rocket & Groot animated shorts.
- Iconic Bands/singers: We’ve directed music videos and promotional content for Gorillaz, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Freak Kitchen, Woodkid, and most recently Stromae and Pomme.
- Broadcasters: We are co-producing original projects with international broad-casters such as ARTE.
- Major Brands: Our past work includes high-end commercials for brands like Converse.
